After selling out in 2021, we’re delighted to return to the Isle of Mull again in 2022!
The Isle of Mull is, in my humble opinion, the U.K.’s undisputed wildlife hotspot. White-tailed eagles soaring high above the lochs, otters frolicking along the shorelines, puffins on the surrounding islands, and red deer aplenty means that no two days are ever the same.
This photographic workshop will explore Mull’s wild beauty, creating close encounters (and create memorable photography) with otters, watching white-tailed eagles dive for their catch, observing Atlantic puffins building their nests, and so much more.
We’ll rise early in the mornings, keeping a close eye on tide times to maximise our chances for capturing those sought after images.
Guidance will be provided in the field, both on your fieldcraft, approaching wildlife and then of course, photographic tuition to get ‘those’ portfolio shots. Weather and tide depending, we’ll stay out as long as the wildlife does, having breakfast along the Lochs.
Our accommodation will be a cosy farmhouse, just 10 minutes from Mull’s wildlife hotspot: Loch na Keal. We’ll be totally self-catered, meaning we’re able to flex around wildlife without having to worry about meal times — all breakfasts, lunches, and dinners will be provided.
Each evening we’ll gather around the wood-burning fire and we’ll be giving presentations on improving your fieldcraft, wildlife behaviours, photographic techniques, and post-processing.
You’ll need to be in Craignure by early afternoon on your arrival day. We’ll be waiting for you at the ferry terminal at midday, ready for an otter adventure!
We’ll then begin our search, getting you familiar with Mull’s geography, familiar signs to look out for, plus some introductory fieldcraft. After an afternoon snack, we’ll then head back to our accommodation. You’ll arrive in time to settle in and freshen up before a further afternoon mission. We’ll then return during dusk, freshen up, and enjoy a dinner, a cosy chat around the fire, then an early night ready for our first full day.
We’ll wake up before sunrise, enjoy a hot drink, then head out on our drive. We’ll stay out all day, depending on tides and wildlife activity. We’ll enjoy breakfast along the coastline, warming up after a morning’s fun. Lunch will be served al fresco, watching eagles soar above.
Animal activity will always peak either side of high-tide, so prepare yourself for a treat. After sunset, we’ll return to the Farmhouse to freshen up, a warm dinner, campfire, and presentations.
On our final morning we’ll slowly meander towards the ferry terminal in time for your late morning sailing back to Oban. Then it’s a big farewell (we’ll probably shed a tear) to Mull and we can guarantee you, you’ll already be planning your return!
There are frequent trains to Oban from Glasgow and Edinburgh international airports, removing the need for car hire. Oban’s ferry terminal is within walking distance of the train station, making your life much easier. If you’d like to extend your Scotland trip, we’d suggest picking up a car in Oban upon your return. We're happy to give advice and guidance on this.

A truly unforgettable experience on the Isle of Mull. With expert guidance we were able to have some incredible sightings while also being respectful of the otters we were there to see. I would go back again in a heart beat.
Our time on Mull was beyond description, there is no way I can ever express my gratitude! The trip truly exceeded all my expectations. George and Lara are two of the loveliest people ever and taught me so much.
I couldn't have asked for a more incredible experience. Expert tuition from George meant I came away with a collection of images that I never dreamed I would have taken. Total game changer for my photography.
We discovered, we learned, we experienced, we laughed. It was a completely magical trip that I'll never, ever forget. Discovering the East African Savanna opened something that it’s hard to describe. Thank you.
